About Nautical Wiki
A free, interlinked study reference for seafarers preparing MCA and Malta deck exams, and for officers who want to review a topic properly.
Where the content comes from
Nautical Wiki grows out of years of study notes and course material kept by a professional captain while preparing for MCA and Malta deck exams.
- AI tools organise those notes into one topic per exam subject.
- Every fact is checked against the official texts (COLREG, SOLAS, STCW, MCA and Transport Malta notices, IMO resolutions, NP100), listed under Resources on each topic.
- Topics are compared regularly with new and amended regulations and updated where needed. Each topic shows the date of its last review.
- Spotted a mistake? Use “Report a problem” at the bottom of any page.
How topics are made
From a professional captain's years of study notes · Organised with AI and checked against current regulations
Every topic follows the same order, so you learn the page once:
- Deep-dive: one section per subject, each opening with “In short”.
- ⚡ Flashcards: test yourself after reading, with exam-style questions on the facts that matter.
- 📚 Resources: videos, books, regulations and official sites to read next.
- Exam focus: typical examiner questions and what they want to hear.
